Tobacco Use in New Jersey: Variations by Socio-Demographic Characteristics, Region of the State, and Health Insurance Coverage Status
Whereas smoking rates have been declining, smoking still remains a primary cause of preventable death and poses an economic burden on the healthcare system.Similar to previous findings nationally, we show that lower income and less education are tied to higher rates of smoking, and rates are higher in certain groups in New Jersey (see report for details). The variations observed in smoking rates across demographic groups point to populations where smoking prevention and cessation efforts should be targeted.
