This indicator measures the percentage of total homeless population per county in 2014.
Why is this important?
People become homeless for a variety of reasons, including lack of affordable housing, low incomes, lack of affordable medical care, and social problems like domestic violence, mental illness, drug addiction, and alcoholism. Homelessness creates puts these individuals at additional risk for untreated acute and chronic diseases, exacerbated mental illness, and shorter lifespans.
